The Hepatobiliary Surgery Department was awarded Plateau Project recognition and the Breast Surgery Department was awarded highland Project recognition. The Hospital has a subcenter with specialization in osteonecrosis of National Orthopedic and Sports Rehabilitation Clinical Research Center and a clinical research center for orthopedic diseases of Dalian.

Affiliated Zhongshan Hospital has endeavored to improve standards of laboratories and scientific research platforms. It has a nationallocal joint engineering laboratory for the development of orthopedic implants. There are three recognized Provincial Key Laboratories, which include Bioengineering experiments for osteoarthropathy, Breast and digestive tumor molecular markers high-throughput screening and targeted drug transformation, and Urinary tumor microenvironment modulates immunotherapy .

There are five recognized laboratories and engineering centers in the City of Dalian. They are the Technology Innovation Center for Radioactive Partical Brachytherapy, the Engineering Research Center for Tissue Repair and Cell Therapy, the Laboratory for Tumor Biotherapy, and Gene Detection, the Engineering Laboratory for Biological and Bone Implant Materials, and the Laboratory for Brain Function and Functional Magnetic Resonance for Brain Diseases. Moreover, it is the only hospital with a Provincial Barrier Environment Laboratory Animal Center. The Hospital has more than 2,000 square meters of specialized laboratories for scientific research. The research platform have two sorts of confocal laser scanning microscope and live cell workstation, scanning electron microscope, flow cytometer, high throughput gene sequencer, fluorescence Q -PCR instrument, high performance liquid chromatograph, multi-functional imaging system, micro-CT, hard tissue sectioning system, gel imager, metal 3D printer, chemical vapor deposition system, and other instruments that meet the needs of scientific research studies.

ThePostdoctoral Research Workstation of the Affiliated Zhongshan Hospital of Dalian University was established in September of 2015. It focuses on strengthening the capabilities of the hospital by developing high level professional talents. It aims to strengthen ties with domestic and international first tier universities and research institute. It gathered outstanding national and international graduate students with doctoral degrees in selected areas of expertise within the hospital. To date, the Hospital has trained a number of high level professional and technical talents and academic leaders for the Hospital’s continuous improvement in health care and social improvement. The Postdoctoral Research Workstation has appointed more than twenty postdoctoral advisors/professors and it has set up professional areas of excellence in oncology, orthopedics, surgery, internal medicine, emergency medicine, anesthesiology, traditional Chinese medicine, radiographic image, laboratory diagnosis as well as in interdisciplinary areas. Partnerships have been established with ten postdoctoral transitional workstations including Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Jilin University, Tongji University, Dalian University of Technology, Northeastern University, Yanbian University, Dalian Jiaotong University, Dalian Medical University and Shenyang Pharmaceutical University.

To date, the Station has enrolled over 70 postdoctoral students. Twentyfive have graduated from the program. There are also three overseas researchers currently working at the Station. The Postdoc Workstation issued Outstanding Scientific Awards to fourteen postdoctoral projects; twelve of which were funded by the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation Project and two of them are key-funded projects. In 2020, our Postdoctoral Research Workstation received an excellent ranking, which had been gotten by only7 of 65 postdoctoral research workstations in the province that received this grade. This is the result of a comprehensive evaluation and the affirmation of the national level for recruitment management, work service level, and scientific research achievements. Our postdoctoral research workstation have played a positive role in developing postdoctoral work and in cultivating younger scientific and technological talents that can compete internationally.
